3 promising artists win 'Dubai Creativity in Short Film Industry'

The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) announced the winners of the short film-making competition that it launched last July under the title "Dubai Creativity in Short Film Industry", with the aim of supporting promising young talents and stimulating creative creative energies in the field of making short films and employing visual media. And audio in story telling and self-expression.

A jury comprising experts in this creative field, namely Dr. Habib Ghuloom, engineer Walid Al-Jallaf, artist Muhammad Al-Salti, artist Samira Ahmed, artist Ahmed Al-Shamsi and artist Khalifa Al-Bahri, selected the first three winners in the competition in which Dubai Culture invited amateurs and professionals. From young people in the field of short film-making locally and internationally to participate and show their creativity by making a short film that is characterized by a meaningful concept, quality of content and a purposeful idea, and employing directorial skills at the lowest costs, in one of four film categories: fictional, silent, comedian and documentary.

The Acting Director of the Performing Arts Department at the Culture and Arts Authority in Dubai, Fatima Al-Jallaf, said: “The participants in the competition translated their creativity into distinct and innovative works, which make us optimistic about a promising future in the region for this important creative field, and deepen our belief that inspiration and creativity exist everywhere, and what We just have to motivate them and explore them. ”

She indicated that the competition succeeded in moving the creative arena inside and outside the country and attracting many innovative and rich participants.

Engineer Saleh Naji Muhammad Al-Marri (from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) won first place for his movie "Simba", which tells the story of the main character in the film who lived in the confinement of an old man, and after his death she became without anyone caring for her, to sleep in the alleys and public streets. In the old quarters, when the hero tells his story with sadness, in the end, he surprises his viewers with his true character, "Simba Cat."

And Ali Al-Taher Ramadan (from Sudan) won second place for his film "Human", which embodies human values ​​centered on how to deal with members of society of different groups and ages to consolidate the bonds of love and solidarity between them.


Al-Taher Ramadan is a native and resident of the Emirates, and a graduate of the Sudan University of Science and Technology, majoring in architecture.

The third place went to artist Iman Faraj Mubarak Derikan (from the UAE) for her film "Happened in 2020", which tells the story of the child "Hamid" with the ban imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, and shows how his life has changed due to this crisis.

The artist is a graduate of public relations and various media. She has written and represented several works of art at the Ras Al Khaimah Girls Center, and has participations in more than one party.

Regarding her talent, Farah said: “My passion in the field of media started from an early age, as I began to be attracted to discover, simulate and learn everything related to presentation, photography and writing representational works..and this passion continued until it became a field of study, and I aspire to develop myself in this field, and to be a member In a passionate and professional team working in the field of media, such as photography, editing and design ».
