  • PCR, the same test to distinguish flu from Covid

The Ministry of Health has registered 18,418 new confirmed cases in the latest report on the evolution of the pandemic in our country published this Tuesday.

The accelerated growth of infections is causing daily figures of around 20,000 positives to become habitual.

This Monday, 52,188 were reported since the previous Friday (the figures are not updated on weekends), an average of 17,400 daily.

There are already 1,116,738 Spaniards who have been infected with coronavirus since March, of which 347,550 have been notified this month, thus surpassing and before the end of October the September record, when 306,330 were registered.

It should be remembered that the more than 18,000 infections correspond to infected people who underwent the diagnostic test in previous days, but whose positive result has not been released until the last day, as well as the PCRs done in the last 24 hours.

If we attend only to the latter, the Government has counted 8,304 (on Monday, 5,217).

Most of them are located in Madrid (1,854), Catalonia (1,715), Aragon (1,004) and the Basque Country (887).

The official count has also added 267 more deaths since yesterday, so that the total of these rises to 35,298 (although infected people who died in residences are not yet included in the global figure).

With the date of death in the last week, Health reports 746 deaths.

Deaths in the last week

More than half of them are concentrated in Madrid, Castilla y León and Andalusia, which score 159, 132 and 124, respectively.

The three regions continue with death figures very far from the rest of the communities.

Thus, in fourth place, Aragon is placed, which accumulates 74 deaths in the last seven days;

Galicia, 50;

Asturias, 42;

Extremadura, 29;

Navarra, 25;

Castilla La Mancha and Valencia, 23;

the Basque Country and La Rioja, 15;

Canarias, 12;

and Murcia, 10. On the other hand, the communities that have added less than ten deaths in this period of time are Catalonia, which registers four;

and the Balearic Islands, Cantabria and Ceuta, which communicate three.

Melilla is the only one that has not counted any deaths in the last seven days.

The truth is that, although at a much slower pace, the death curve continues to advance and increasingly alarming.

The number of these has already more than doubled in a month.

In this sense, compared to the 746 that Health has notified today, on September 28 (the 27 fell on a Sunday and, therefore, no data were published), 359 deaths were reported in a week.

At that time, the most affected regions were still Madrid (82), Andalusia (60) and Castilla y León (49).
