More than 2,900 Covid-19 patients were hospitalized in intensive care on Tuesday, occupying half of the beds currently available in France in these services welcoming the most seriously ill patients, according to the latest official figures.

Compared to Monday evening, there are 148 more patients in intensive care (2,909 against 2,761 on Monday).

The current capacity of the resuscitation services - which do not only accommodate Covid-19 patients - is around 5,800 beds.

The public authorities intend to ramp up in the coming days.

Also increasing the number of positive cases

If we also take into account the discharges, 431 patients with Covid-19 have been admitted to sheaves (or intensive care) in the last twenty-four hours, according to data published by the French public health agency.

The overall number of hospitalizations for Covid-19 also continues to increase.

Nearly 19,000 patients were in hospital Tuesday, against 17,761 the day before.

If we remove those who have been released in the meantime, nearly 3,000 (2,988) hospitalizations for Covid-19 have been recorded in the last twenty-four hours.

In addition, the number of confirmed positive cases increased by more than 33,000 in one day, according to figures published on the official government website.

Sunday, France had broken a new record with more than 52,000 positive cases confirmed in twenty-four hours.

New restrictions this Wednesday

Finally, the number of hospital deaths attributable to the disease rose to 288 for the day of Tuesday, for a total death toll of more than 35,000 since the start of the epidemic.

Faced with the very strong degradation of all indicators of the epidemic, Emmanuel Macron will make a televised address on Wednesday at 8 p.m. to present new measures.

These new restrictions, which could go as far as a national reconfinement, will be decided on Wednesday morning during a Defense Council before the Council of Ministers.
