Anri Kawai decides to grant bail Tokyo District Court October 27, 10:35

The Tokyo District Court has decided to grant bail to Senator Anri Kawai, who has been acquitted of violating the Public Offices Election Act.

The bail is 12 million yen, and the prosecution is expected to file an appeal against this, but it is expected to be released if the court retires.

Anri Kawai (47), a member of the House of Councilors, and his husband, former Minister of Justice Katsuyuki Kawai (57), allegedly distributed cash to five local members over the House of Councilors election last year, when he was elected for the first time. He is accused of taking over a violation and claims innocence.

Anri Kawai's lawyer filed his fifth bail request on the 16th of this month, but the Tokyo District Court decided on the 27th to grant bail.

The bail is 12 million yen.

The prosecution is expected to file an appeal against this, but if the court dismisses and pays the bail, Senator Anri will be released on bail.

The case had two trials held together, but was separated last month after former Minister Kawai dismissed all the attorneys.

The scheduled witness cross-examination in Senator Anri's trial is over, and the accused will be questioned from the 13th of next month, and it seems that the court has decided that even if bail is granted, the risk of eradication of evidence is low.
