Study claims baby shampoo and mouthwash can protect against coronavirus

There are many ways in which you can reduce the risk of infection with the Coronavirus, ranging from wearing a face mask to washing hands regularly.

And researchers from Pennsylvania State College of Medicine claim that some mouthwashes and baby shampoos have the ability to eradicate the coronavirus, according to the British "Mirror" website.

Professor Craig Myers, who led the study, said: "While we await the development of a vaccine for the Corona virus, there is a need to reduce transmission, and the products we tested are readily available and are often already part of people's daily routines."

In the study, researchers tested several daily products against a similar alternative to SARS-CoV-2, including a 1% solution of baby shampoo, peroxide cleansers for the mouth and mouthwash.

Each product was allowed to interact with the virus for 30 seconds, one and two minutes, and the results showed that a 1% baby shampoo solution, which was often used to rinse the sinuses, inactivated more than 99.9% of the virus after two minutes.

Meanwhile, many mouthwash and gargle products have been shown to inactivate more than 99.9% of the virus in just 30 seconds.

While the results are encouraging, the use of mouthwash or baby shampoo is not currently listed as a preventative measure against coronavirus.
