The last week of October starts in line with the previous one, with a soaring contagion curve.

The report published this Monday by the Ministry of Health

reveals 52,188 new cases confirmed since Friday

(the figures are not updated on weekends), around 17,400 daily.

This is a figure that is much higher than that registered a week ago.

Specifically, the Government notified 37,889 positives last Monday in those last three days.

Of the more than 52,000 positives, 5,217 are diagnostic tests done in the last 24 hours.

Most of them are located in the Basque Country (891), Aragon (762) and Catalonia (633)

.

The cases registered by the Community of Madrid during the last day are striking, as it has counted 370 infections compared to 2,027 on Friday.

The official count has also noted 279 new people who have died from the virus in the last three days.

Therefore, the total number of deaths in our country since the start of the pandemic has risen to 35,031 (in the absence of including deaths in residences).

In the last week, in addition, 628 people have lost their lives.

The director of the Center for the Coordination of Health Alerts and Emergencies,

Fernando Simón,

assured at a press conference that the "evolution" of the second wave of the coronavirus "is being fast and ascending in a very clear way" and has warned that "it is very likely "If the measures are not implemented" quickly, the incidence will continue to rise in the coming weeks. "

Sanctions

Simón highlighted that over 45% of the cases that are detected are still asymptomatic or presymptomatic.

But he warned: if "later they do not scrupulously keep the isolation", all the effort "is of little use."

It can only be solved "by imposing sanctions when they have to be imposed".

The health system, the Ministry spokesman has admitted, "is already in a situation of great pressure

.

"

In addition, "there is a hospital that is in a very critical situation right now," he warned.

In fact, the average occupation in Spain in ICU beds is already only a few tenths of the limit set last Thursday as an indicator of a "very high risk", 25%.

"Important efforts are being made from the point of view of the identification of cases", explained Simón, who highlighted, in particular, the high number of tests carried out in La Rioja, Navarra and the Basque Country.

"If we ever use optimistic words when we should not, it can be, to a certain extent, criticized," Simon has acknowledged, questioned about his explanations a few weeks ago, when he foresaw a stabilization of the epidemic.

"We cannot pretend that the communication and exposure of data is anyone's fault. They are the data that exists," he said, after recalling that they are the figures that "the autonomous communities communicate to the Ministry."

"Virtually all the autonomous communities are right now at very high risk."

And the rest, "with the exception of the Canary Islands", is at "high", highlighted the Health epidemiologist, referring to the indicators recently approved by the Interterritorial Council.

In favor of the state of alarm until May

Simón has defended the declaration of the state of alarm: "We have to implement measures outside the usual protocols," he stressed.

And he added: "Decreeing a state of alarm and having to renew it permanently is a very great effort for public health services and requires a political discussion that can undermine confidence."

He insisted, on the other hand, that the state of alarm "allows sufficient flexibility", and has qualified: "We are in a state of law and, therefore, the possibility of modifying it is always on the table."

Questioned by the duration of the exceptional measure, the Health spokesman has also supported that it be extended until May: "We are in a period of high, very high incidence, and it is the same that is happening throughout Europe."

For this reason, he has advanced, "it is very, very probable, highly probable" that transmission will continue to grow during the winter months.

Regarding the eventual arrival of a vaccine, he pointed out that, even

"if everything goes very well, we will not be able to vaccinate large population groups until spring

.

"

During the winter period, therefore, "we will have to live as best we can, but we will live badly" with the virus.

All Europe is facing, according to Simón, "a wave, perhaps, greater than the one we are experiencing. As for the number of cases detected, we do not know if the real one will be much higher."

Regarding the ICUs, Simón has given a specific date for the generalized collapse if the transmission cannot be lowered:

"It is very possible that in mid-November, perhaps the third week, there will be a number of intensive care units in a very delicate situation

.

"

However, if the newly implemented measures work, "we may be able to avoid this collapse."

He has insisted, in any case, that "vulnerable groups" must protect themselves from contagion, as well as the people around those who find themselves in this situation.

On the next bridge,

Simón insisted that mobility should be reduced to a minimum

: "We can hardly have social traditions if we don't have a society to live in," he went on to say, to clarify immediately afterwards: "Surely it is an exaggeration" .

The advice is, in any case, the same: "If it is not necessary, do not leave the house," he repeated.

"We must understand and assume it all."

On the contrary, he has warned harshly: "If we do not do it, we will continue to see the dead every day, and we cannot maintain that for long."

Dead and new income

Returning to the deceased last week: Half of them continue to be concentrated in three communities: Castilla y León (126), Madrid (111) and Andalucía (100).

Aragon is positioned in fourth place by reporting 70 deaths in this period of time;

region followed by Galicia, which totals 53. Asturias accumulates 39;

Extremadura, 25;

Navarra, 22;

Valencia, 19;

La Rioja, 15;

Castilla La Mancha, 12;

and Canarias, 11. On the other hand, the Basque Country counts eight deaths;

Murcia, seven;

Balearic Islands, four;

Ceuta, three;

and Cantabria, Catalonia and Melilla, one.

In terms of admissions, 4,471 people have had to be hospitalized in the last seven days (on Friday, 4,439).

In this sense, Castilla y León is the region that has reported the most inpatients in this period of time (835), followed by Andalusia (706), Madrid (428) and Aragón (419).

The curve of coronavirus patients who are currently hospitalized in the country continues to grow worryingly

.

There are already 16,008 patients admitted, 1,469 more than last Friday.

More than two thirds of them correspond to Catalonia (3,322), Madrid (3,176), Andalusia (2,240), Castilla y León (1,465) and Valencia (1,075).

In the case of Catalonia, covid patients have more than doubled in two weeks, since compared to the 3,322 counted today, two weeks ago this figure was 1,536.

The same has happened in Andalusia, which has gone from 1,081 hospitalized patients on October 12 to 2,240 this Monday.

In Valencia, the cases of income have also multiplied by two (from 507 to 1,075).

Of the more than 4,400 hospitalizations in the past week, 299 have required intensive care and 164 since Friday.

Therefore, there are already 15,192 people who have entered this hospital unit since the start of the pandemic.

At the European level,

Spain is placed in third place in number of infections

, after France reaches a total of 1,138,507 and is placed in second place, only behind Russia, whose global figure rises to 1,513,877 confirmed cases.

Regarding the total number of deaths, the United Kingdom remains in the lead with a total of 44,896, followed by Italy (37,338) and Spain (35,031).

Regarding the incidence of the virus in the European countries that have accumulated a greater number of confirmed cases, Belgium continues in the first place with a runaway rate that exceeds 1,000 positives per 100,000 inhabitants (1,249).

Behind are the Netherlands (615), France (589), Switzerland (503) and Spain (410).
