The second wave

Faisal Muhammad Al-Shamri

October 26, 2020

The Corona pandemic is not the first human challenge, as the history of humanity is replete with epidemics that killed millions of people, as the “influenza” epidemic in the early twentieth century wiped out millions, and its second wave was more severe and widespread due to the laxity of precautionary measures, and the public’s rush to restore a normal life Without any awareness and awareness of the fire burning under the ashes.

The same applies to the procedures for dealing with the "plague" epidemic, including what we have taken from the prophetic guidance, from preventing travel to the epicenters of the epidemic, and not leaving residents or visitors to these centers, to prevent the transmission of infection to other regions.

Such a legal, legal and ethical obligation must be applied, and the public interest calls for accountability and accountability of the non-compliant, as they put their lives and the lives of others at risk, and this does not come at a cheap price, but has complex repercussions.

Some experts, including Professor Ali El-Khoury, have estimated the global losses caused by the repercussions of "Corona" at $ 12 trillion so far, and it is expected that the losses will continue for a longer period, as there are no practical and realistic global solutions, in addition to the fact that international frameworks are still failing to treat This human challenge, and as we note the second wave hit Europe in pain, and it is expected that the second wave will hit the world.

Our preparations in the UAE are a model to be followed, but the challenge requires concerted societal efforts, the private and semi-governmental sector, with the government sector, which has spared no effort or money in dealing with the pandemic.

Non-traditional solutions require in-depth and innovative studies to study the psychological, social and economic impact, advanced scientific research, and even legislative, oversight and awareness issues and aspects, in order to continue global distinction, and to preserve the safety and stability of society from the consequences of the second wave, and this is not limited to a commitment to social distancing, but rather an approach. Innovative and collective brainstorming, as well as innovative and creative laboratories, to present the challenges of the stage, and to prepare for the next 50 years.

The capabilities of scientists and doctors in the country, both citizens and residents, have proven their ability to be the first line of defense, but the experiences of other countries, and the lessons learned from the re-infection of patients who recovered after the first infection, prove in no room for discussion or useless philosophy that prevention is better than A cure, and an dirham of prevention is better than a pound of cure.

We must all prepare for the second wave, and participate in the nation's efforts to preserve the safety of our people, our families, ourselves, our society and the nation as a whole, and remain an oasis of security and safety.
