Xinhua News Agency "China Cyber Affairs" reporter Tai Sicong and Wu Wenxu

Fear of using smart devices, fear of falling at home, fear of property being deceived... In recent years, many young people have found that their parents and elders have become "daunted" in life. They are not only afraid of burdening their children because of their confusion, but also Afraid of becoming a "cumbersome" in the eyes of others, how can these "pain points" of the elderly be resolved?

Afraid of using smart devices

Statistics show that in 2019, my country's population of 60 years old and above has increased to 254 million.

In daily life, many elderly people are troubled because they can't or dare not use smart devices.

Recently, the West China Stomatological Hospital of Sichuan University cancelled on-site registration services in accordance with epidemic prevention regulations, which caused objections from the elderly.

"I don't know how to use a mobile phone. I just use the landline for things. It's too much trouble." Zhang Junfu, an 86-year-old man, told reporters that his son and daughter had bought him an elderly mobile phone, and he could not use it once a week. After losing it, he didn't use it anymore.

"My sons and daughters come to see me every week, and they buy me a lot of food, not to mention paying with a mobile phone. I walked downstairs when I was fine, and chatted with old friends."

Zhang Junfu said that sometimes he goes to the hospital to register and prescribe medicine. Although there are volunteers to instruct how to operate the self-service registration machine, he is still not used to registering manually for a lifetime.

"Sometimes a lot of people line up. I can't see clearly. I'm afraid they will be urged. If no one teaches me, it won't work."

The "Research Report on Internet Life for Middle-aged and Elderly People" shows that 46.3% of middle-aged and elderly people have never used a mobile phone to pay, and only 17.4% of middle-aged and elderly people use it frequently.

The reporter found that many elderly people began to doubt and fear smart devices.

Among the more than 200 million elderly people in my country, a considerable number of them are suffering from the "digital divide" and face many difficulties in payment, medical treatment, and travel.

The Beijing Municipal Office on Aging and the Beijing Association of Aging put forward proposals in the Smart Helping the Elderly Action Proposal to help the elderly cross the "digital divide", which requires the cooperation of society.

Provide necessary information guidance and manual assistance in stations, airports, parks, banks, hospitals, shopping malls and other public places; establish "uncoded green channels" and adopt alternative measures; retain cash payment and offline processing channels to improve "face-to-face" services .

Afraid of falling at home

74-year-old Wu Youjun accidentally slipped while taking a bath at home this summer, causing a fractured calf. After resting in bed for more than 4 months, travel has now become her "heart knot".

"People really can't afford to fall when they are old." Wu Youjun told reporters, "one fell down, ten years afraid of falling."

According to data from the Chinese Disease Surveillance System, falls have become the number one cause of death from injuries among people over 65 in my country.

According to estimates, more than 40 million elderly people in my country have at least one fall every year, and about half of them occur at home.

According to industry insiders, the proportion of falls caused by home environmental factors is as high as 85%, and the family's ageing renovation is imminent.

Li Hongbing, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau, said: “Every elderly person over 60 years old should have their family undergoing age-appropriate reforms. One reformation can serve the elderly for 20 to 30 years, which reduces high-risk injuries by changing the living environment. This is a concrete manifestation of actively responding to aging."

In addition, there are occasional extreme cases of nanny hired to care for the elderly at home.

In September this year, the Chaoyang District People's Court of Beijing issued a first instance verdict on a case of elder abuse by a nanny.

The defendant Zhang Li (pseudonym) was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment for ill-treatment of the caretaker and was banned from working in nursing care for three years.

Many netizens said, "This babysitter's behavior is outrageous and it hurts too much."

The court held that the nanny involved in the case, as a service staff caring for the sick elder’s life, should have taken care and protection of the care recipient, but it violated the professional ethics and the requirements of nursing duties and harmed the care recipient, and his behavior seriously damaged The physical and mental health of the sick elderly constitutes the crime of abuse of the care recipient.

In response to such problems, interviewed industry insiders said that the entry barrier for the elderly care industry is low but professionalism is strong, especially for the service of bedridden elderly people. The work is heavy and requires not only professional operations, but also communication with the elderly to make them cooperate.

He suggested that industry associations and social organizations can regularly organize psychological counseling for employees, strengthen communication skills training, and help domestic workers provide better services for the elderly.

Children should also listen to and accompany the elderly more in their spare time to meet the emotional needs of the elderly so that they can enjoy their twilight years.

Afraid of being defrauded of "old age money"

Selling health products to defraud money, fabricating overseas investment projects to raise funds, defrauding in the name of marriage and love... Old people's "old age money" is often coveted by lawbreakers.

Prior to this, Beijing No. 2 Intermediate People's Court announced four typical cases of fraud involving the elderly.

With the increase in the demand for investment and financial management of the elderly, some lawbreakers use high returns as a guise and false projects as packaging to induce the elderly to participate in "investment and financial management" through advertising, free activities, emotional care and other marketing methods. property loss.

At the same time, due to limited energy and weak awareness of risk and rights protection, the elderly often become vulnerable groups in financial consumption.

For example, in one of the fund-raising fraud cases, the defendant Guangmou promised to pay high monthly interest to the victim in the name of investing in a foreign international entertainment city project, investing in financial management, etc., and successively defrauded more than 40 elderly people in raising funds of more than 70 million yuan.

After trial, Guang's behavior constituted the crime of fundraising fraud and was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Luo Shan, a judge of the Second Intermediate People's Court of Beijing, said that high returns often accompany high risks, and it is difficult for the elderly to withstand major investment losses psychologically, so they must be cautious when investing in financial management.

When choosing wealth management products, the elderly should carefully identify investment and wealth management information, and do not seek small profits.

At the same time, we must remain rational and refrain from blindly "following the trend" in investing.
