A Jordanian woman recounts her journey with breast cancer, from the first symptoms to recovery

On the occasion of Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October), Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) stressed the importance of breast monitoring and periodic examination, especially for women aged 40 and over, and the need to perform repeated tests, because the examination may save lives, as it helps to discover Breast cancer early, and start the journey of treatment.

"SEHA" shed light on the story of a female survivor, and her fight with breast cancer, from the first symptoms she felt, until the moments of her complete recovery.

The journey of Jordanian Maysa Abu Laban (a mother of three) began with breast cancer six months after the birth of her last child, as she was spending her vacation in her country, and she felt some changes in her body, but she did not care about it, and she thought that it would be nothing more than some trouble because of a change The weather, travel, and some postpartum issues, but the troubles continued after her return to the Emirates from her vacation, which prompted her to closely monitor her health condition and check all matters until she noticed a red color with milk while breastfeeding her baby, so she rushed to see her doctor, thinking that it might be Some infections that need treatment.

Maysa Abu Laban added that she reviewed many doctors and specialists in specialized hospitals and clinics in several places, and conducted many pictures and analyzes, and everyone was informing her that the results are sound, and that there is no cause for concern, but she was not convinced of what was being told her, until he requested Including her husband, who works in the health sector, took her to Al Ain, where he booked an appointment for her at the Breast Health Care Center at Tawam Hospital.

She explained that the specialists at the Breast Health Care Center at Tawam Hospital conducted her clinical examination, images and necessary analyzes, and after the examination, they provided her with an explanation about the breast and its surgery and tried calmly to communicate to her the information that she had a lump in the breast, and that the matter will be dealt with until it is cured. .

Maysa said: “The news of my breast cancer struck me at the beginning, as I began to think about my children and their fate, and my parents and how they would receive such news, and after a while I began to acquire myself and resort to God, in addition to the presence of his wife beside me and reassuring him that made me dispel feelings of fear The concern that I had, in addition to the specialists in the breast center dealing with me and explaining things in detail, what calmed my mind.

She remembers that she began to discuss with the specialists at the center about future steps and how things would go, as they explained to her the details of the surgery and its date.

They emphasized the importance of performing surgery on the breasts and not one breast, because that would be better for the future, and I guarantee that the tumor will not come back, especially since the tumor took a long time to discover, as it is in a difficult place to discover, and had it not been for her insistence and eagerness to know her health condition and review by many doctors, what was discovered The disease has not spread dramatically.

She noted the social and psychological support she received from her husband and her family, which had the greatest impact on her acceptance of the news of her breast lump, how she faced the matter with determination and perseverance, how her family stood by her side, and how her husband encouraged her to overcome all difficulties and recovered and returned to her normal life.

She emphasized that early detection of cancer is the basis of treatment, and advised women to do regular checks and not hesitate.

And she continued, "Currently, I am living my life normally, and I do not suffer from any symptoms, thank God, and I go to the clinic monthly only to be reassured."
