  • As in 53 other departments, Ille-et-Vilaine will be placed under the curfew regime from midnight Friday.

  • It will be forbidden to move between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. throughout the department and bars will have to lower the curtain for three weeks.

  • If the epidemic has stabilized in Rennes and in its metropolis, it has literally exploded everywhere else in Ille-et-Vilaine.

Three weeks under the bell from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

This is what awaits the inhabitants of Ille-et-Vilaine from this Friday at midnight.

As in the 53 metropolitan departments concerned by the curfew measure, it will therefore be prohibited to travel on this time slot throughout the department except for overriding professional, family or health reasons.

The measure promises to be harsh for bar owners with the total closure of their establishments at least until November 13 inclusive.

The same will apply to sports halls and swimming pools.

Restaurant managers are doing a little better because they will still be able to accommodate customers until 9 p.m., as are theaters or museums.

All trade fairs, exhibitions or fairgrounds will also be banned for three weeks throughout the department.

The epidemic stabilizes in Rennes but explodes everywhere else

If more than 46 million French people are affected by this curfew, the announcement of the placement of Ille-et-Vilaine surprised many.

Rather spared since the beginning of the health crisis, the department thought indeed to pass between the drops.

But several factors tipped the scales in the wrong direction.

The incidence rate first with a ceiling to establish the curfew which was lowered to 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, against 250 cases previously.

However, this rate is currently 183 cases in the Rennes metropolitan area and 191.5 cases in Ille-et-Vilaine.

If it stabilizes in the Breton capital, it has literally exploded everywhere else in the department.

In certain communities of communes such as Vitré or Fougères, it is approaching 257 cases and even reaches 376 cases in the very rural sector of Couesnon.

"All types of territories are now affected by this epidemic with a situation that has continued to worsen since the end of August", underlined the prefect Michèle Kirry this Friday afternoon.

"To prevent the situation from getting out of control"

The test positivity rate has also jumped since the end of the summer.

On August 20, it was only 1.20% in Ille-et-Vilaine.

It is now 11.95% in the department and even climbs to 13.41% for people over 66 years old.

Hospitals are finally starting to feel the epidemic pressure with 112 hospitalized patients, eight of whom are in intensive care.

“The occupancy rate of intensive care beds is currently 89%, of which 20% are Covid-19 patients,” said Anne-Briac Bili, chief of staff of the Regional Health Agency in Brittany.

So many factors that have therefore led to the tilting of Ille-et-Vilaine under the curfew regime.

“The shock is severe, conceded the prefect.

But one of the keys is precisely to adapt early enough to prevent the situation from getting out of control ”.

A message that will be difficult to get across to restaurateurs and bar owners.

At the call of the collective We will all drink, they gathered this Friday morning in front of the gates of the prefecture for a concert of casseroles.

"While the discussions with the authorities made us hope for a relaxation within a fortnight, we feel betrayed", they denounce.
