In their book

Entre la pierre et la plume

, the members of the IAM group tell their story and that of French rap.

Guests of the program

Musique!

, Akhenaton and Shurik'n explain to what extent this musical genre is today rich and accessible to all.

And in particular thanks to the Internet, which has greatly facilitated access to the productions of artists from all over the world.

"Not a rap, raps"

Unlike many observers of the music world, Akhenaton was never surprised by the trajectory taken by rap in France.

"We knew that if rap penetrated variety, its accessibility and the responsiveness of this culture would appeal to a lot of people, and that rap would diversify," he theorizes.

But IAM has never abandoned its original identity.

"We come from a very offensive rap, positioned, and which must fight, work elbows to exist", recall together Shurik'n and Akhenaton.

"We are just asked to have the right to nuance, because there is not a rap, but raps."

"A little less Facebook, a little more research"

As a music enthusiast, Akhenaton rejoices in this diversity.

“I did radio shows for a very long time, where I played American rap songs made by 17-18 year olds who continue to do very laudable things,” he recalls.

For the rapper, everyone can now have access to one or more rappers who match him.

"There is a tool that is deeply stupid when it is misused, but which is also deeply interesting: the Internet", laughs Akhenaton.

"You can go find the bands you like, listen to amazing artists. It's really a huge step forward."

Faced with this facility, the leader of IAM is sorry that some do not make the little effort necessary to be interested in rap.

"People who say that they cannot find their account is that they are in the easy way," he summarizes.

Akhenaton then delivers the solution, with the meaning of the formula that we know him: "A little less Facebook, a little less photos of your entries, your toilets. And go get the pieces. It's a little more productive."
