China News Agency, Macau, October 23 (Reporter Long Tuyou) The launching ceremony of the "Macao Autonomous Bus Test Platform" was held at the University of Macau on the 23rd, marking the official opening of Macau's first autonomous bus.

According to reports, this research project is one of the “Key R&D Programs” of the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund. It is jointly developed by the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Macau and the State Key Laboratory of Smart City Internet of Things in conjunction with many autonomous driving institutions in the Mainland.

Song Yonghua, President of the University of Macau, said that the autonomous bus test platform combines multiple technologies to form an efficient transportation system of “people, vehicles, and roads”, and overcomes the problem of how to apply autonomous buses to Macau’s complex and congested traffic scenes.

In the future, more influential and innovative research results will be transformed to serve the public and make new contributions to smart cities in Macau and the Greater Bay Area.

Chen Yunxi, Chairman of the Administrative Committee of the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund, said that autonomous driving is one of the test platforms for artificial intelligence technology. The traffic environment in Macao is complex. In the short term, automatic driving in urban areas has not been realized, but he hopes to collect more test data in Macao. Improve the level of artificial intelligence research in Macau.

The self-driving bus is 6.6 meters long and has two modes of manual and intelligent driving, which can be switched according to actual needs.

In the automatic driving mode, the bus can detect static and dynamic obstacles and traffic signs such as vehicles, pedestrians, zebra crossings and traffic lights, and can slow down or stop according to actual conditions.

The bus also has functions such as autonomous lane change and automatic stopping at bus stops. The speed does not exceed 40 kilometers per hour, and the safety and stability meet the requirements of bus operation.
