Republican senators in the Justice Committee voted unanimously in favor of the decision.

The background is that the two social media platforms slowed the spread of a New York post article published last week.

Republican senators think Zuckerberg and Dorsey need to be held accountable for what they believe are anti-conservative and biased measures.

Could be proof that Biden has lied

The New York Post published emails sent between Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden and an adviser to the board of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma, for which Hunter Biden worked.

In one of these emails, the counselor thanks for an invitation and the opportunity to meet his father.

Joe Biden has previously been accused of pressuring Ukraine as vice president to replace a public prosecutor who investigated Burisma.

If the meeting with the Ukrainian adviser has taken place, it refutes Joe Biden's previous statements.

Biden's campaign says that there are no logs showing that a meeting has taken place.

And no other major media house has managed to verify whether the emails are genuine or not.

Criticism of the handling

Because there is uncertainty about the email, Facebook made sure that their algorithm did not lift the article.

They also put a warning text next to the link that the information in the article needed to be reviewed by a third party.

Twitter removed the ability to link to the article, temporarily blocking users who wanted to share it.

Ahead of the 2016 election in the United States, social media was used for advocacy campaigns from Russia.

The technology companies have worked to better counteract future attempts.

Braking in the New York Post's article was part of this work, although there is no evidence that this could be part of an advocacy campaign.

Twitter later made it possible to share the article.

Jack Dorsey writes on Twitter:

"Our communication about how we have handled the New York Post's article was not good.

Blocking URL sharing via tweet or instant messaging without the context of why we did it: unacceptable ”.
