  • The Pyrénées-Atlantiques is one of the two departments of Nouvelle-Aquitaine affected by the curfew.

  • Bars are closed all day, while establishments open to the public close from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

  • These measures come into effect for three weeks.

Only two departments in New Aquitaine have been affected by the curfew since the government announcements Thursday evening: Haute-Vienne and Pyrénées-Atlantiques.

"The meaning of this measure, which comes into force on the night from Friday to Saturday, is to avoid contact between families while respecting economic and social life, and live more or less normally until 9 pm" recalled this Friday the prefect of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Eric Spitz.

"Almost all of the measures taken in the department are automatic measures, such as closing bars all day from Saturday," insisted the prefect.

"Only restaurants remain open during the day, so establishments able to offer a real menu", specifies Eric Spitz.

"Some tapas bars can be considered as restaurants, but catering must be a regular activity of the establishment, and there will be controls", he explains.

Gauge for large events of 5,000 to 1,000 people

In addition to the closing of bars, and the closing of establishments open to the public from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., one of the main consequences of going into curfew is that the gauge for major events has dropped from 5,000 to 1,000 people.

“There is also a complete closure of gaming rooms, casinos, temporary rooms (exhibition venues and fairs, trade fairs), of most sports establishments and indoor swimming pools (activities of school groups and young people under 18 years can continue), as well as a ban on fairgrounds.

However, access to the beaches remains authorized.

For the start of the student year, there will be a reduction in student reception to 50% of capacity in institutions, restaurants and university libraries.

These measures are valid for three weeks before being reassessed, and exceptional travel certificates will be possible between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., in particular to exercise a professional activity.

32 clusters in the department

The prefect of Pyrénées-Atlantiques indicated that the incidence rate in the department now reaches 254 per 100,000 inhabitants, and the positivity rate 13%.

“The hospital situation is not good with 44 people hospitalized against 30 a week ago, continues Eric Spitz.

We also have ten people in intensive care, so it's a tense situation, because there are other people in intensive care for other reasons, and we should not end up deprogramming operations.

"

Some 32 clusters have been identified in the department, “the vast majority of which are linked to the sports world”.
