Three 57-year-old doctors were arrested by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department for selling supplements that have not been approved for medicine, alleging that they are effective in preventing cancer and infectious diseases.

When he received the order, he explained that it would also be a countermeasure against the new coronavirus.

A total of three people were arrested, including Shingo Kazemoto (57), a doctor in Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo, and the president of a supplement sales company, and two employees.

According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, Dr. Kazemoto and his colleagues said that from March to June, they sold supplements that had not been approved for medicine by advertising that they were effective in preventing cancer and infectious diseases. There is a suspicion of violating the Medical Device Law.

The advertisement on the company's homepage also included photos of the doctor himself and the clinic in Shinjuku Ward.

The main customers are corporations such as beauty salons, and when they received an order over the phone, they explained that it would also be a countermeasure against the new coronavirus.

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating that it has been selling these supplements for 20 years and has made a profit of about 70 million yen.

In response to the investigation, Dr. Kazemoto denies some of the charges, saying that he "did not recognize that it was a drug."
