The impressive evolution of the incidence rate of the virus in recent days and the increase in hospitalizations foreshadowed a strengthening of measures in the region.

From midnight this Friday, ten of the twelve departments of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes will be under curfew, according to the announcements made this Thursday by Prime Minister Jean Castex.

Until now, only the metropolises of Lyon, Saint-Etienne and Grenoble, where the coronavirus epidemic accelerated ten days ago, were subject to this ban on going out (except exemption) between 9 p.m. and 6h.

From now on, the inhabitants of Ain, Drôme, Ardèche, the entire Loire, Rhône, Isère department but also of the two Savoies, Puy-de-Dôme and Haute- Loire will in turn have to respect the curfew.

Only Allier and Cantal are currently excluded from the maximum alert perimeter.

A sharply rising incidence rate

In the region, hospitalizations and admissions in intensive care have increased significantly in recent days.

And the incidence rate of the disease is beating records, in the Loire and the Rhône in particular.

"In Saint-Etienne, there are 800 positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants", notably cited this Thursday evening the Minister of Health Olivier Véran to illustrate the progression of the virus.

At the national level, this incidence rate is 251 / 100,000 inhabitants.

The region is also one of the four French territories where the situation is most difficult in intensive care, with the Paca region, Hauts-de-France and Ile de France.

“The bar of 50% of Covid patients in intensive care has been crossed there”, underlined Jean Castex, foreseeing a “trying” month of November.

“The coming weeks will be tough,” he added.

The progression of the epidemic leads us to extend the curfew measures to 38 new departments and an overseas community.

In these territories, the curfew will apply from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

These rules will come into effect as of midnight Friday.

While it is still too early to measure the effects of the curfew on hospital pressure, the first indications should be known next week, or fifteen days after the installation of these devices in the metropolises most exposed to the virus.

If the repercussions of this measure on the circulation of the virus are not obvious, the government does not exclude “harsher” measures, without specifying which ones ...
