He was chosen by a majority of 65 deputies, according to a statement read at a press conference by a senior presidential official.

Saad Hariri had resigned almost a year ago to the day under the pressure of an unprecedented popular uprising and will have to tackle the formation of a new government team in a Lebanon in the midst of economic collapse.
