Chiune Sugihara 120th Anniversary of Lithuanian Ambassador to Japan Nagoya October 22, 20:54

In commemoration of the 120th anniversary of the birth of Chiune Sugihara, who was stationed in Lithuania during World War II and saved many Jews from the persecution of Nazi Germany I visited places related to Nagoya city.

Chiune Sugihara is said to have saved 6,000 lives by issuing visas to Jews fleeing the persecution of Nazi Germany in 1940 when he was stationed in Lithuania as a diplomat, 120 years after his birth. It has been 80 years since it was issued.

To commemorate this, Lithuanian Ambassador to Japan Gediminas Valbuolis ran around the area related to Sugihara in Nagoya City on the 22nd.

Sugihara lived in Nagoya when he was a boy, and at Mizuhogaoka Junior High School in Mizuho Ward, Nagoya, which was built on the site of a graduated junior high school, three students welcomed the ambassador at the same place as the photo of Sugihara. We interacted with each other by taking a commemorative photo.



In addition, at Aichi Prefectural Zuiryo High School, which is our mother's school, the ambassador and students visited the exhibition facility "Sempo Sugihara Memorial" that introduces Sugihara's achievements.



This route around the land of connection is maintained by the city under the name of "Humanitarian Road".



Ambassador Barbuolis said, "While running, I thought of Chiune Sugihara. It was a very symbolic run to confirm the legacy and friendship between Lithuania and Japan."
