Beet, the raw material for sugar, is at the peak of harvest in the Tokachi region of Hokkaido, October 23, 5:10

In the Tokachi region, where beets, which are the raw material for sugar, are produced most in Hokkaido, harvesting is flourishing.

Beets, which are the raw material for sugar, are produced only in Hokkaido in Japan, and the production in the Tokachi region is the highest in Hokkaido for the third consecutive year until last year.

Harvesting of this year began in various places in October, and harvesting work was carried out from 7 am on the 22nd in a field of about 6 hectares of Mr. Tadayoshi Miyata in Beppu-cho, Obihiro City.

Harvesting was done with a dedicated machine, and beets that weighed 1 to 3 kg were dug out of the soil one after another.

In Mr. Miyata's field, nearly 100 tons of beets will be harvested in just 22 days, and the beets will be transported to a sugar factory in Memuro-cho for processing into sugar.

According to the road, this means that due to less rain in June, production is expected to be slightly lower than last year, and sugar content tends to be lower at this point.

Mr. Miyata said, "I'm worried about the sugar content, but recently the temperature difference between day and night has come out, so I hope the sugar content will rise even a little."

The Tokachi region beet harvest will continue until mid-next month.
