The State plays the card of the precautionary principle.

The Ministry of National Education on Tuesday suspended the distribution to teachers of Dim brand masks, which the Reporterre site accuses of being treated with a toxic product.

An appraisal will be carried out and distribution will only resume if the tests rule out a danger.

The results are expected "mid or next weekend", according to Snes-FSU, the first secondary school union.

Response before the start of the school year

According to Reporterre, these masks distributed by the ministry to French teachers since the start of the September school year are treated with silver zeolite, a biocide considered toxic.

They will therefore be replaced by “other fabric masks from the start of the school year on November 2, after the All Saints holidays, if these analyzes are bad,” the union said.

The ministry, for its part, confirmed the suspension of distribution pending the results of the expertise in progress.

Asked last week about the possible toxicity of these masks, the Minister of Education Jean-Michel Blanquer had also indicated that "this is surprising information that deserves verification".

No new school-related restrictions to wait "a priori" according to Blanquer
