[Explanation] On October 20, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Carrie Lam, met with the media before attending the executive meeting and said that Shenzhen has experienced reform and opening up over the past 40 years and has created a miracle of the world economy. There are many places Hong Kong can learn from.

She emphasized that in the future, Hong Kong-Shenzhen cooperation will be further deepened to create a "two-city economy".

[Explanation] The 40th anniversary celebration of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone was held in Shenzhen on the 14th.

After the meeting, Carrie Lam noticed that there were many discussions about Hong Kong-Shenzhen cooperation in Hong Kong society. Some people said that Hong Kong's competitiveness was much lower than before, and the economy was overtaken by Shenzhen, and development opportunities have been lost.

But Carrie Lam believes that under the "one country, two systems", Hong Kong's inherent characteristics and advantages can be retained. Hong Kong has long-term experience in external relations, and the two cities have their own advantages and can complement each other and achieve mutual benefit.

Competitiveness is like sailing against the current. If you don't advance, you will retreat. Therefore, Hong Kong has to improve its competitiveness before it can continue to retain our advantages.

In Shenzhen, of course, the reform and opening up of Shenzhen in the past 40 years has created a miracle of the world economy.

As of today, there are also many places where Hong Kong can learn. Hong Kong and Shenzhen can jointly build a "twin-city economy" or play a "dual engine" function, especially in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

[Explanation] Carrie Lam said that as of May 2020, there are probably more than 50,000 Hong Kong citizens living and working in Shenzhen. Up to now, there are more than 80,000 Hong Kong-funded enterprises in Shenzhen, accounting for 85 percent of Shenzhen’s foreign investment. %, this shows that there is a lot of room for cooperation between the two places.

It now appears that the scope of Hong Kong-Shenzhen cooperation is very broad. In addition to the previous investment, trade, manufacturing, and export, of course, innovation and technology, cultural and creative industries, and even higher education and medical care all have room for cooperation between the two places. So I hope that we can make use of the two cities to join forces to create the next stage of economic development.
