Huimo has a history of more than 1,200 years. It is named after it was produced in the ancient Huizhou Prefecture. It is loved by literati and ink scholars because of its "firm as jade, silent research, a little bit like lacquer, and ten thousand years of truth."

In 2006, Huimo production techniques were included in the first batch of China's national intangible cultural heritage list.
