Khalaf Allah added - in an interview with the episode (20/10/2020) of the "Beyond the News" program - that Trump is keen to use this issue to pressure the Sudanese government to normalize relations with Israel.

Khalaf Allah - who is also a spokesman for the Arab Socialist Baath Party - emphasized that the issue of normalization is not within the competence of the transitional government, but rather such a decision must be issued by an elected government and an elected parliament, stressing at the same time Sudan's firm position on the Palestinian issue.

The transitional government in Sudan welcomed President Trump's announcement of his intention to remove Sudan from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, in the event that Khartoum deposited $ 335 million in compensation for American victims of "terrorism".

While the transitional government in Sudan confirmed that it had already transferred the agreed amount, pointing to the great benefits that Khartoum would achieve from this step, it stressed at the same time that the deal was not linked to any other file, in the context of responding to the possibility that it would be subject to the normalization of the relationship with Israel.

For his part, chief researcher at the African Center of the Atlantic Council, Cameron Hudson, said that the US president should send an official message to Congress, which must respond within 45 days to the request to remove Sudan from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism.

Hudson explained that Congress will later issue a law that Sudan is a sovereign state, considering that the inclusion of Sudan's name in the list of states sponsoring terrorism makes it lose its immunity before American courts, adding that this matter is facing difficulty due to the presence of a number of cases against Sudan filed by victims of the bombings that took place in Nairobi. Dar es Salaam, 11 September and others.

For his part, journalist and political analyst Taher Al-Mu'tasim said that the Sudanese negotiator was adamant that his country obtain judicial immunity after removing Sudan from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism.

Timing of the decision

On the timing of Trump's announcement of removing Sudan from the list of states sponsoring terrorism, Hudson said that this decision has been in discussion since the transitional government came to power in Sudan about a year ago, denying that Trump had any electoral gains as a result of this declaration.

While Hudson confirmed that there is an American-Sudanese dialogue regarding normalization with Israel, he indicated that this is a different path from the path of removing Sudan from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism.

Al-Mu'tasim believed that the US decision means that the US administration does not oppose any request for financial support requested by the Sudanese government from international organizations.

Al-Mu'tasim referred to the statement of the Sudanese Finance Minister in charge, Heba Muhammad Ali, that removing Sudan from the list of countries supporting terrorism will bring great financial benefits to the country, most notably the exemption of Khartoum from its debts of $ 60 billion.
