Ministry of Defense Secretary's Report “Not Plagiarism” Ordered Compensation to the State Tokyo District Court October 20, 17:57

In a trial in which a secretary of the National Institute for Defense Studies of the Ministry of Defense was punished for plagiarism in the report and allegedly disgraced by disclosing his name, the Tokyo District Court said that it was not plagiarized. Judging, he ordered the government to compensate 1.1 million yen.

Eiko Iwata, who holds a research position as a secretary at the National Institute for Defense Studies of the Ministry of Defense, created a report for the ministry on personnel management of female military personnel overseas, but there was plagiarism from the report two years ago. He complained that he was disgraced for the fact that his name was announced in 2016 after receiving admonition.

In a ruling on the 20th, Judge Yasushi Taniguchi of the Tokyo District Court pointed out that "when quoting internal materials, it is recognized that there was recognition that plagiarism would not occur even if the citation was not displayed." However, I decided that it would not be plagiarized.

On top of that, the disposition was illegal, and he ordered the government to compensate 1.1 million yen and delete the disposition publication material from the Defense Research Institute's website, saying that the publication of his name had hurt his honor.

At the press conference, Mr. Iwata said, "I am delighted that the claim was accepted. I would like to continue my research at the institute."

The Ministry of Defense commented, "We consider that some of the state's allegations have not been accepted. We would like to carefully consider the content of the judgment, thoroughly investigate with the relevant organizations, and take appropriate measures." ..
