A-bombed building "former Army clothing branch" released a survey of building strength Hiroshima October 20, 19:13

On the 20th, a detailed investigation to confirm the strength of the "former Army Clothing Branch", which was the largest bombed building in Hiroshima City and a draft policy for dismantling due to the risk of collapse, was reported to the press. It has been published.

Regarding the A-bombed building "Former Army Clothing Branch" in Hiroshima City, in December last year, we proposed a policy to preserve the appearance of one of the three buildings owned by Hiroshima Prefecture and dismantle and remove two of them. The dismantling business from this year has been postponed due to a series of opposition that it should be preserved.

The prefecture cited the high risk of collapse in an earthquake with a seismic intensity of 6 or higher as the reason for dismantling and removal, but according to this survey, it is more earthquake-resistant than originally expected and the cost of preservation is also high. The prefecture has been investigating the strength of the building in detail since the 14th of this month, as it turned out that it could be only about one-third.

On the 20th, the state of the investigation was released to the press, and the person in charge was investigating the strength by applying pressure to the joints of the bricks on the wall and the ground part of the building.

The survey is scheduled to continue throughout this month, and the prefecture will present the survey results to a meeting made up of experts in architecture and other matters to discuss reinforcement methods and costs.

Fumio Mishima, the policy director of Hiroshima Prefecture, said, "I would like to compile a building reinforcement plan and estimated construction costs by the end of the year based on the data obtained from the survey."
