His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated yesterday morning the Khorfakkan Literary Council.

After the unveiling of the memorial plaque to mark the official opening, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah toured the corridors of the building and listened to an explanation of the most prominent features in the building, including facilities, departments and services.

The council is the latest cultural edifice in support of the cultural and literary movement in the city of Khorfakkan, and a continuation of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah's cultural vision and building the people of the emirate, as the council will organize many events, workshops, cultural seminars, poetry evenings, and forums that bring together writers and cultural leaders.

The building was designed in the local style, and is an aesthetic value added to the rest of the city’s buildings, and the building consists of two floors on an area of ​​950 square meters, and includes several facilities, including a theater that can accommodate 112 spectators, a council of poets that can accommodate 52 people, and a library that includes addresses on various topics in history. Literature, arts, cultural and literary forms, in addition to administrative offices.

Then His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, went to the heritage area in the city of Khorfakkan, where His Highness opened the House of Poetry, and wandered the halls of the heritage building, listening to His Highness about the history of the building that was converted into the House of Poetry, its goals and his vision in attracting poets, intellectuals and writers, and about the center’s activities in organizing seminars and evenings And poetic dialogues.

His Highness also inaugurated the Folk Poetry Center, aware of its facilities and departments, and the cultural activities it will provide to enhance the cultural and literary aspect of Khorfakkan by hosting poetry evenings, seminars and workshops that will have an impact on attracting fans of popular poetry and preparing a generation of poets.

The building of the House of Poetry and the Center for Folk Poetry dates back to the thirties of the last century, and the buildings were restored using materials that correspond to the heritage character and identity of the city of Khor Fakkan, according to the highest old building standards.

The House of Poetry and the Popular Poetry Center seek to provide a cultural environment for creators in the field of poetry to continue their creative path, to encourage and highlight the new generations to present their creativity and to supplement the poetry arena with literary productions and upgrading the poetic taste, in addition to preserving and documenting popular poetry.

In addition to His Highness, the Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, Major General Saif Al-Zari Al Shamsi, the Head of the Culture Department, Abdullah Muhammad Al Owais, the Head of the Public Works Department, Engineer Ali bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi, the Head of the Protocol and Hospitality Department, Muhammad Obaid Al Zaabi, and the Head of the Sharjah Heritage Institute, attended the opening. Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Musallam.
