The late artist was born in the village of Azemmour from the delegation of Kelibia in the state of Nabeul in 1934 in the name of Halima al-Sheikh, but musician Saleh al-Mahdi chose her artistic name Nehme.
She started singing at the age of 11 with the song "Salha" and "Makhoul Nezara", then she sang for the first time in front of the audience at a charity party for the benefit of the Blind Association, which qualified her to become one of the singers of the Rashidieh group.
She joined the National Radio as a certified singer in 1958 when the radio group was then including big names like Saliha and Alia.
She traveled with the radio troupe to many countries, and participated in major events, such as the Miss Arab Election Festival in Beirut in 1966 and the Cairo Millennium Festival in 1969, after which she was named Tunisia's first artist.
