Pregnant woman was strangled .. America is implementing the first federal death sentence for a woman in 70 years in December

The US Department of Justice said, on Friday, that it had set December 8 to implement the first sentence issued by a federal court to execute a woman in nearly 70 years.

The department said in a statement that Lisa Montgomery, convicted of strangling a pregnant woman in Missouri in 2004, would be executed by lethal injection at Terre Haute Correctional Facility, Indiana.

The Death Penalty Information Center says the last woman executed by federal court decision was Bonnie Heidi, who was placed in a Missouri gas chamber in 1953.
