Water containing radioactive substances “Understanding and solving by the people concerned” Minister of Reconstruction October 16, 18:42

Reconstruction Minister Hirasawa met with the chairman of the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives and others on how to dispose of water containing radioactive substances such as tritium at TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, and understood the people involved, including the fishery. He showed his thoughts on working toward a solution while gaining money.

Regarding the disposal of water containing radioactive substances such as tritium, which is increasing at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, in February, a subcommittee of the government dilutes the concentration to below the standard and then puts it in the sea or the atmosphere. The government is considering a disposal method by compiling a report that the method of release is realistic.

Under these circumstances, Chairman Hiroshi Kishi of the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives visited the Reconstruction Agency with the executives of the local fishermen's cooperatives and met with Reconstruction Minister Hirasawa, saying, "I am fully aware that the handling of treated water is a national issue. However, if it is released into the ocean, it will inevitably cause reputational damage, "he said, expressing his opposition to the release into the ocean.

In response, Minister Hirasawa said, "No matter what disposal method you use, reputational damage may occur. We will work hard to resolve it with the understanding of the people involved, including those involved in the fishing industry."
