Previously, research in psychology has shown that spoilers can enhance the film experience, now there is also a study in marketing that shows that it can also attract more cinema visitors, reports Kulturnytt in Swedish Radio.

The more you get to know about a film in advance, the greater the chance that you as a cinema visitor will choose that particular film.

It shows the results of a study in the Journal of Marketing, an American journal for research results in marketing.

- Reviews that spoil the plot help consumers like you or me to decide to go see the film, says Joseph Ryoo, who is one of the researchers, to Kulturnytt.

The survey has compared 140,000 user reviews on the American film service IMDB with 1000 films.

The results show that the user reviews that reveal more about the film's plot sell more movie tickets.

Independent films benefit the most

It is above all liters of lesser-known films that benefit from the fact that the surprising elements in the film are spread.

- It is above all films that are unsafe cards for the visitor, such as independent films, which get higher ticket sales because people read reviews that tell about the plot, says Joseph Ryoo.
