This Friday in "Sans Rendez-vous", Doctor Jimmy Mohamed responds to Alexandra, a listener who finds that the sentence "five fruits and vegetables a day lacks precision".

He therefore reviewed this principle and took the opportunity to discuss dairy products and cereal products.

"Five fruits and vegetables a day."

Since 2001 and the launch of the National Nutrition and Health Program (PNNS), this sentence is almost as well known as "alcohol should be consumed in moderation".

However, Alexandra, a listener from Europe 1, finds that this nutritional benchmark lacks clarity.

“Does a fruit yogurt count as a fruit?” She wonders in particular.

Can we eat four fruits and vegetables on Monday and six on Tuesday to achieve a balance?

In "Without Rendezvous" this Friday, Doctor Jimmy Mohamed makes a point on the real meaning of this sentence, and takes the opportunity to recall the recommendations for dairy products and cereal products.

Five servings of fruits and vegetables

"These are benchmarks, so the idea is to have a varied and diversified diet. The whole point is to avoid processed products and try to cook a little more. So when we talk about five fruits and vegetables, we talk more about portions. Knowing that a portion is 80 to 100 grams. This can be for example a tomato of an average size, an apple or five strawberries ... It must be understood that food is the first medicine to avoid getting sick.

As for the balance between fruits and vegetables, it is necessary to try to privilege the latter.

They can be fresh, frozen or canned.

On the other hand, fruit yogurt is not considered one serving, it does not work.

Ditto for orange juice which should be avoided, like other liquid sugars.

While you don't have to be psychoactive, especially in the case of having a glass of orange juice for breakfast for your children, perhaps they should be better educated to eat, chew and swallow real food. "

Two dairy products

"The ideal is to have two a day, you can supplement it with cheese. Beware of yoghurts which are sometimes very sweet, especially flavored yogurt. Try if possible to take them plain, possibly adding a little. little sugar if you don't like the taste too much. But it's a food to limit since it's not very good for your health. "

Should we eat grain products every day?

"In a study we learn that 60% of the French do not include either cereals or legumes in their diet, whereas we should have them regularly since it is rich in fiber, in vegetable proteins. We should therefore eat it. at least twice a week, especially for legumes. It can be lentils, chickpeas ... You have to eat more and they should practically serve as a main course. We tend to take a meat or a fish and a little accompaniment, so it should be the other way around. Legumes should take up more space. "
