Corona infection Development of inspection system such as Tohoku University that can be understood just by exhaling October 16 21:51

Tohoku University and a manufacturer of analytical instruments have jointly developed a new inspection system that allows you to check whether you are infected with the new coronavirus by just exhaling, and announced that you are aiming for practical use.

The presentations were made by Tohoku University Graduate School and Shimadzu Corporation, a major analytical instrument manufacturer in Kyoto City.

This system consists of a machine that breathes for about 5 minutes and takes in breath, a machine that inactivates the new coronavirus in the breath and takes in the protein contained in the virus, and a machine that analyzes the taken out protein. It is made of, and the prototype is completed.

The inspection equipment is relatively large and mass production is an issue, but it is said that the results will be obtained in about an hour after taking a breath.

So far, about 10 people who have been infected have been conducting clinical trials, and while continuing the trials, we will also proceed with research toward practical application such as miniaturization of the device.

Professor Takaaki Akaike of Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine said, "There is no other attempt to detect a virus from breath in the literature, and if the technology is established, it will probably be the first in the world."

Mr. Teruhisa Ueda, President of Shimadzu Corporation, said, "It is possible to predict not only positive or negative but also the risk of aggravation. I would like to continue research."
