Covid-19 cases are on the rise in Marseille and Aix-en Provence despite their passage in the maximum alert zone and health restrictions, according to figures from the Regional Health Agency (ARS).

The incidence rate, i.e. new cases detected over seven days, reached 271 per 100,000 inhabitants during the week of October 5 to 11, against 218 the previous week, in the municipalities of Aix and Marseille.

In people over 65, it reached 209 new cases, against 170 the previous week, according to the ARS Provence-Alpes Côte d'Azur, again well above the threshold of the maximum alert (100).

A "marked increase" rate of positivity

By exceeding the threshold of 250 per 100,000, the metropolis of Aix-Marseille had been placed in the maximum alert zone on September 23.

The closure of bars and restaurants came into effect on the 27th, before restaurants were allowed to reopen their doors but with a reinforced health protocol on October 5.

In recent days, the incidence rate has reached 422 in Paris, against 250 to 300 at the end of September, 424 in Lille and 256 in Toulouse, which, like Montpellier, fell into the maximum alert zone on Tuesday.

The indicators are much better in other cities.

The incidence rate was thus at 69 in the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg, just above the first alert threshold (50), on October 5.
