The maniacal passion of all pro-Western regimes in the post-Soviet space is membership in the EU and NATO.

Until a certain moment, it seemed to some that this task was quite solvable.

The alliances themselves encouraged candidates to believe they were on the right track and would sooner or later gain the coveted membership.

Mikheil Saakashvili, being the president of Georgia, tirelessly raved about the idea of an early entry into the North Atlantic Alliance.

Georgia was one of the first to receive the enhanced capabilities plan, which allegedly provides the partner country "increased access to interaction programs and exercises, as well as broader information exchange", but in fact imposes obligations to participate in the military operations of the alliance.

The Ukrainian government has long and passionately dreamed of membership in the military-economic bloc of Western countries.

Ukraine in this direction has advanced much further than everyone else.

In February 2019, Petro Poroshenko signed a constitutional bill initiated by himself, according to which the country is moving towards joining NATO.

This lackey norm is absolutely meaningless, since it does not bring the desired moment closer, which, judging by the initial data, will never come.

Now the current Ukrainian ruler has decided to speak on this topic.

Interfax quotes a statement from which it becomes clear that the person who made it did not bother to get to know the subject in any way.

Here is a quote: “We have already become NATO's enhanced partners.

We are going to NATO.

NATO is about security in our region.

We understand this, so yes, we have a powerful army, we have an army of 200 thousand, we are updating our equipment, but this is not enough.

And the only chance, I think so, I say this to both the United States and the EU countries - I say to everyone: if you do not want to lose Ukraine, you must support it.

And NATO membership is a very important signal to the Russian Federation, it is the most important support. "

I don't know if I will be able to upset anyone if I say that membership in the North Atlantic bloc for Ukraine is about the same achievable goal as the flights of Ukrainian spacecraft to Mars or Venus.

There are several problems.

The fifth article of the alliance's charter states that "an armed attack on one or several NATO countries in Europe or North America" will be considered an attack on them as a whole. "

That is why the entrance to the organization is closed for countries with internal territorial conflicts.

And even more so with external ones.

Zelenskiy signed the National Security Strategy in mid-September, which states that Ukraine is "holding back Russia's onslaught."

That is, ideally (although the alliance has never acted in this regime) NATO is obliged to enter into a military conflict with Russia if Ukraine becomes its member.

There is not the slightest chance that the bloc, which includes the countries that are the owners of nuclear weapons, will wish to unleash a nuclear war.

But this is a global and absolutely irreparable moment, tightly blocking access to membership for Ukraine, Georgia and other candidate countries that consider Russia their enemy.

There are others, less ambitious.

The state of the Ukrainian army is an additional obstacle.

The quality of the weaponry, its technical antiquity, the lack of the possibility of modernization - all this is one hundred percent discrepancy with the requirements of the unit for applicants.

However, the alliance is ready to cooperate with countries such as Ukraine and Georgia.

Their military resources are in demand in operations conducted in different countries.

The Ukrainian military is participating in NATO campaigns in Afghanistan and Kosovo.

If a new conflict flares up somewhere, then Kiev will have to redeploy its troops there in accordance with the rules for participation in the enhanced capabilities program.

There is a parable about a donkey with a carrot, which is fixed on a stick in front of his nose, but he will never be able to get to it, although he will stubbornly walk towards it.

Neither NATO nor the EU will open their doors to Ukraine in the next 100-200 years, but they will continue to encourage and praise it.

By the way, the fate of the alliance itself is under a big question: how long will it last if Washington, as Donald Trump promises, stops allocating funds for its existence?
