  • The organizers of the Trans Musicales announced on Tuesday that the 42nd edition of the festival will take place from December 2 to 6 in Rennes.

  • The programming will however be impacted by the health crisis with around forty groups showing, against a hundred usually.

  • The Trans Musicales will also abandon the Parc Expo and fall back on smaller venues, such as the Liberté or the Cité.

The news will give a little joy to all festival-goers who have spent the summer depressed.

Despite the Covid-19 crisis which brought the entertainment world to the ground, the Trans Musicales will take place from December 2 to 6 in Rennes.

Provided of course that the health situation does not evolve negatively in the coming weeks, "which would force us to cancel", underlines Béatrice Macé, co-director of the festival.

But the Trans Musicales teams do not want to think of the worst for the moment.

They have never considered the outright cancellation of the 42nd edition, working on "six scenarios and double the number of hypotheses," says Béatrice Macé.

We could not bring ourselves to interrupt the relationship with the artists and festival-goers.

A return to the roots of the City and of Liberty

If the Trans Musicales will therefore be held, they will not however have the same format as in previous years.

With the ban on gatherings of more than 1,000 people in the Breton capital, we already knew that it would be complicated to organize concerts at the Parc Expo, where the Trans have been installed since 2004.

The organizers therefore fell back on the Salle de la Cité, which saw the birth of the festival, and the Salle du Liberté, also well known to festival-goers.

Two venues located in the city center that will host seated and masked concerts with a reduced capacity of 750 seats per room.

The MeM and the Antipode will also be part of the party at the beginning of December, taking over from the Ubu room which cannot be transformed into a seated configuration.

A more European and reduced programming

The program of Trans Musicales will also be impacted by the health crisis with 42 groups and two dance companies this year on the bill, against a hundred usually.

Used to receiving groups from all over the world, the festival will thus refocus on a more European poster with in particular the Italian author and composer Andrea Laszlo de Simone, the Spanish female quintet Maruja Limon or the Germans of Aggregat.
