Internet users and politicians from different sides were indignant Monday at a photo of the commemorative plaque of Arnaud Beltrame published on the networks.

On the plaque at the entrance to the garden of the 3rd arrondissement of Paris and which bears the officer's name, we can read the inscription “victim of his heroism”.

A twist that does not pass.

“To suggest that Arnaud #Beltrame would have been a victim of himself is revolting.

It was Islamist fundamentalism that assassinated him, "said Marine Le Pen, president of the National Rally, on Twitter, adding that the PS mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo" would be honored to change this shocking sentence number of French ”.

It had gone unnoticed when the plaque was unveiled: to suggest that Arnaud #Beltrame would have been a victim of himself is revolting.

It was Islamist fundamentalism that murdered him.

@Anne_Hidalgo would be honored to modify this sentence which shocks many French people.

" An insult "

Aurore Bergé, deputy president of the LREM group at the National Assembly, was also surprised: “How can we deny at this point the barbarism and Islamist terrorism which are the only ones responsible for his assassination?

If he died a hero, he is in no way a victim of his heroism ”.

President of the Terrorism Analysis Center, Jean-Charles Brisard denounced "an insult" to the memory of this lieutenant-colonel, who died after taking the place of the hostages during the terrorist attack in a supermarket in Trèbes (Aude) in March 2018.

"The writing of the plaque had been validated by the family"

This controversy comes in the context of discussions around the bill intended to fight separatism and radical Islam, which must be presented on December 9 in the Council of Ministers.

The Paris City Hall indicated that "the writing of the plaque had been validated by the family of Arnaud Beltrame".

"If the wording did not suit the family today, it would naturally be modified," added the town hall.
