Indicators of the Covid-19 epidemic continue to deteriorate.

Nearly a hundred deaths have been recorded in 24 hours in France, the number of patients in intensive care having exceeded the threshold of 1,500, according to figures released Monday by Public Health France.

In the past 24 hours, 96 people have died from the coronavirus, bringing the total deaths since the start of the epidemic to at least 32,825.

At the same time, the number of Covid-19 patients hospitalized in intensive care, the most serious cases, continued to rise to reach 1,539 people, or 56 more than the day before, the highest since May, according to the agency. sanitary.

New intensive care admissions - one of the other important indicators for monitoring the evolution of the epidemic since the main issue is to prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed by a massive influx of patients - also increased, with 171 patients admitted Monday, 98 more than the day before.

National capacity of 5,000 beds in shifts

At the peak of the epidemic, in early April, more than 7,000 patients were hospitalized in these services, mainly those who needed to be placed on artificial respiration.

This number then fell sharply until the end of July, before resuming a steady increase.

The current national capacity is around 5,000 intensive care beds.

Hospital stays, which also include somewhat milder forms of the disease, continue to increase continuously (8,671 in total, including 976 new hospitalizations recorded in the last 24 hours).

Regarding tests, some 8,505 new cases of contamination have been detected over the past 24 hours, far from the records of recent days, with nearly 27,000 cases recorded on Saturday.

Monday's figure is not representative, however, due to the closure of laboratories at weekends.

The test positivity rate (proportion of positive people out of all those tested), however, continues to increase to 11.8% (against 8.6% last Monday).
