Who says second epidemic wave of coronavirus inevitably means reinforcement of the social and economic crisis behind.

To counter this, measures aimed at the "most vulnerable" will be announced on Saturday, Jean Castex said on Monday, who met in early October with associations fighting against poverty.

"I think that we will have to adapt our intervention tools, depending on the impact of the second epidemic wave", the Prime Minister indicated on Franceinfo.

"Next Saturday, the national day for the fight against poverty, the government will announce the decisions it is taking for the most vulnerable," he added.

Request for an increase in the main social minima

The executive had indeed promised an "act 2" to its anti-poverty strategy, in an attempt to respond to the growing concerns of associations which now fear that "hundreds of thousands of people will go from a state of precariousness to poverty" , according to Christophe Devys, president of the Alerte collective (35 federations and national solidarity associations).

These associations ask in particular for an increase in the main social minima (RSA, AAH for the disabled and ASPA for the elderly), as well as the opening of the RSA to young people, a measure considered for a time and even pushed by the boss of the Republic. Stanislas Guerini on the move, but to which the Prime Minister again closed the door on Monday.

Boost integration

"We will not vary on one point, which is that all that is RSA, that is to say what gives allowances relating to a state of poverty, are not in our priorities", declared Jean Castex. .

But "what we want is to boost all the integration mechanisms that take people out of this state to lead them to training, to employment, and therefore give them additional remuneration thanks to that", insisted the head of government.

For his part, the secretary general of the CFDT, Laurent Berger, also called last Thursday for an increase of 100 euros in the active solidarity income and its extension to under 25 years.
