Indicators of the Covid-19 epidemic have deteriorated further in 24 hours in France, with a further increase in intensive care hospitalizations and more than 16,000 new positive cases, according to figures released Sunday by Public Health France.

The number of Covid-19 patients placed in intensive care has increased slightly, according to the health agency.

A total of 1,483 people are currently in intensive care in the country, 27 more than the day before - again a record since May.

Slight decline in new sheave admissions

On the other hand, new admissions to intensive care units - one of the other important indicators for monitoring the evolution of the epidemic since the main challenge is to prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed by a massive influx of patients - are down slightly. , with 73 patients admitted on Sunday, 37 less than the day before.

At the peak of the epidemic, in early April, more than 7,000 patients were hospitalized in these services, mainly those who needed to be placed on artificial respiration.

This number then fell sharply until the end of July, then evolved in a range of between 350 and 400 patients until the end of August, before resuming a constant increase.

The current national capacity is around 5,000 intensive care beds.

16,101 new cases detected

Hospital stays, which also include somewhat milder forms of the disease, continue to increase continuously (8,231, +255 from the previous day).

In addition, 16,101 new cases of contamination with the coronavirus have been detected in the past 24 hours.

This is less than the 26,896 listed on Saturday across the country.

The test positivity rate (proportion of positive people out of all those tested) continues to increase to 11.5% (11% on Saturday).

In the past 24 hours, 46 people have died from Covid, bringing the total of deaths since the start of the epidemic to at least 32,730.

While the situation is particularly worrying in Ile-de-France, the president of the region Valérie Pécresse said Sunday she feared having to "face in the days, in the weeks to come, new measures depriving of liberty".
