The Malmo Arab Film Festival launched its tenth session, yesterday evening, in the city in southern Sweden, in a faint festive atmosphere, due to the outbreak of the Corona virus, and in the presence of some Arab filmmakers residing in the West.

The festival, which will last until October 13, presents 45 films from Egypt, Lebanon, Tunisia, Iraq, Sudan, Saudi Arabia and others. For the opening, the Moroccan film "Adam" starring Nasreen Al Radi is chosen, and for the conclusion the Algerian film "Matares" by Rachid Ben Hajj.

12 feature films compete in the feature films competition, while 24 films compete in the short films competition, and the rest of the films are distributed on different programs.

The jury for the feature-length feature film competition includes the Swedish critic Anika Gustafsson, the Tunisian producer Dora Bouchoucha, and with them Rasmus Brendstrup of the Danish Film Institute.

The founder and president of the festival, director Mohamed Qeblawi, said during the opening, “The Malmo Arab Film Festival celebrates its tenth anniversary amid the outbreak of the Corona epidemic, and for this we have ensured a program and film screenings specifically for this, and in line with the recommendations of the Swedish bodies, especially the Health Care Authority, out of our concern for the safety of everyone. ».

He added, "We have learned a lot this year, and we are still loyal to our goal of bringing together movie lovers from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds in order to meet on this platform, which is Malmö."

The festival started its activities yesterday with a lecture by Palestinian director Rashid Masharawi entitled "Corona and Cinema", in which he talked about the impact of the Corona pandemic on cinematic production and distribution, his personal experience with production before the pandemic, and the transformations that it witnessed after its spread.
