  • An anti-infective already on the market has been identified by the Institut Pasteur de Lille as promising after in vitro tests.

  • Thanks to this donation from LVMH, clinical trials will be able to be launched very quickly in the hospitals of Lille and Tourcoing, as well as in the private clinics of the Catholic Institute of Lille.

A new step has been taken.

The Institut Pasteur de Lille announced this Friday that it had obtained the five million necessary to continue its research around a treatment of the symptoms of Covid-19.

For six months, teams of researchers have been mobilized around the possible repositioning of a drug that already exists on the market.

In vitro studies had made it possible to identify an old anti-infectious agent that is particularly effective against the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus.

Large-scale clinical trial

However, a large-scale clinical trial was still needed to verify the effectiveness of this treatment in humans.

The Hauts-de-France region had already committed to presenting a deliberation, on October 13, allowing a subsidy of 785,000 euros to be paid.

This time, the budget is closed thanks to a donation of five million euros from LVMH.

"The French group, whose chairman, Bernard Arnault, is from the Lille metropolis, contacted the Institut Pasteur de Lille as soon as the first results were announced on this work," said the Institut Pasteur in a report. communicated.

Huge treatment hope

“Faced with the global pandemic, the scientific discovery of researchers at the Institut Pasteur de Lille gives rise to enormous hope for a cure.

It is vital that this research can continue and it is for this purpose that I have decided to provide support for this crucial phase of clinical trials, ”explains Bernard Arnault, president of LMVH.

Clinical trials will therefore be able to be launched very quickly in the Lille and Tourcoing hospitals, as well as in the private clinics of the Catholic Institute of Lille.
