Beijing has reached severe pollution

Beijing News Express (Reporter Deng Qi) The real-time air quality of the Beijing Environmental Monitoring Center shows that the current Beijing local area has reached the fifth level of severe pollution, and the city as a whole is at the fourth level of moderate pollution.

From October 8th, the first continuous air pollution process occurred in Beijing area after the autumn.

At 10 o'clock on October 9th, Beijing's air quality index was 151, which was Grade 4 moderate pollution. The primary pollutant was PM2.5.

Concentrations of pollutants are unevenly distributed. The western and northern regions are slightly lower, with a level of mildness of level 3, and the eastern and southern regions are slightly higher, with localized levels of severe pollution.

The real-time air quality platform showed that at 10 o'clock on October 9th, the hourly concentration of PM2.5 at the Jingdongnan Station was 166 micrograms/cubic meter, which was a level five severe pollution.

From the analysis of the causes, this air pollution process is caused by typical static and unfavorable air pollution diffusion conditions in autumn and winter. Low air pressure, strong temperature inversion, weak wind speed, and high humidity cause a significant decrease in the diffusion capacity of pollutants and the continuous accumulation of pollutants.

At the same time, because the overall level of regional pollution has risen significantly, the mid- and low-level atmosphere continues to be transported by the southerly easterly airflow and converges northward, which has significantly increased Beijing's air pollution level.

According to news from the Beijing Environmental Monitoring Center, today’s Beijing area is controlled by a high-pressure rear weak atmospheric pressure field, and the diffusion conditions are unfavorable. The air quality is expected to maintain mild to moderate pollution levels. The air pollution situation will not fundamentally change today and tomorrow. It will reach the level of moderate to severe pollution, and the air quality is expected to improve to Class II on the 11th.
