Sharjah International Book Fair kicks off November 4

The Sharjah Book Authority announced the launch of the 39th edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair under the slogan "The World Reads from Sharjah" during the period from 4 to 14 November at Expo Center Sharjah, with the participation of hundreds of Arab and foreign publishers from around the world.

For the first time in its history, all accompanying lectures and workshops will be organized this year remotely in line with the precautionary measures taken by the state during the current circumstances, and at the same time the doors of the exhibition will remain open to visitors who are book lovers to reach their favorite addresses and visit the publishing houses that will be present in the Sharjah Expo Center throughout Days of the event.

The event, which is one of the three largest exhibitions in the world, raises the slogan "The world reads from Sharjah" in a message expressing the emirate's position as an Arab incubator for culture and intellectuals and a meeting place for writers, thinkers and artists from different parts of the world. In its selection of the slogan this year, the Commission affirmed that Sharjah is despite all Circumstances around the world still open their doors for pioneers of literature and culture to read, know and learn.

The head of the Sharjah Book Authority, Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, said, “We have been keen to organize this session of an exceptional nature in light of the spread of the new Corona virus around the world and the measures that accompany it, out of our belief in the necessity of continuing cultural action and because we are certain that building people on knowledge and culture is in the interest of community renaissance. And the vision that was always enshrined by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, which stresses the need for the book to remain the window that builds the present and future of generations.

He added, "We decided to make use of the elements of modern technology and to employ the means and techniques of visual communication to serve culture and creativity. This is why we decided that all events, activities, dialogue sessions and the events associated with them should be remote to confirm that Sharjah will always remain an incubator for culture and intellectuals and a beacon of knowledge and creativity."

Al-Amiri confirmed that the authority has taken all precautionary measures that ensure visitors have regular visits at specific times during the day within an environment that has been equipped with all preventive measures to preserve the health of event-goers.
