  • In Loire-Atlantique, the incidence rate is now 91.4 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and the positivity rate is 8%.

  • Figures on the rise which could soon move the department into a zone of "enhanced alert".

Until then rather spared by the second wave of coronavirus which is sweeping the country, Loire-Atlantique is finally not left out.

This Thursday evening, the regional health agency announced that "the epidemic pressure" had been "particularly strong" for a few days in the territory.

"The situation is worrying with indicators that are not good," said Jean-Jacques Coiplet, director of the ARS.

In Loire-Atlantique, the incidence rate is now 91.4 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and the positivity rate is 8%.

In the city of Nantes, the figures are even higher and continue to increase with an incidence rate of 170, a positivity of 9.3% and an incidence rate in the over 65s equal to 79.

"In view of the context, everything suggests that the metropolis of Nantes or the Loire-Atlantique department will join the list of territories classified as" enhanced alert "[such as Rennes or Rouen]", announces the prefect Didier Martin, without for you might as well specify within what timeframe this decision could be made.

In the meantime, the prefecture has not decided on new restrictions.

The measures to wear the compulsory mask (which now concerns half of the inhabitants of Loire-Atlantique) and a limit of 30 people for the holidays have however been extended.

It is also getting worse in Mayenne

In the rest of the Pays-de-la-Loire region, the situation follows the same increase even if the figures are lower.

Prefect Didier Martin notably indicated that the department of Mayenne (placed in high vulnerability for a few days) could soon be classified as an “alert zone”, like Sarthe, Maine-et-Loire and Loire-Atlantique ( except if it has already left this category).

And already, tensions in the health system are being felt.

“The hospitals of Le Mans and Cholet are starting to find themselves in difficulty,” illustrates Jean-Jacques Coiplet.

This required that the University Hospital of Angers began to organize itself to convert hospital beds into intensive care beds.
