60 million years old ... a dinosaur sold for $ 31 million in America

On Tuesday, New York City saw the sale of the skeleton of the 60-million-year-old dinosaur Stan for $ 31.8 million.

Stan skeleton is one of the most complete dinosaur skeletons of the Tyrannosaurus rex family. It contains 188 bones and is 40 feet long and 13 feet high.

The Stan Temple was found near Buffalo, South Dakota, in 1987, and it took paleontologists at the Black Hills Research Institute more than three years to excavate and rebuild it.

Scientists estimate that Tyrannosaurus was 20 years old when it died, about 60 million years ago.

"It's a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity to buy a complete Tyrannosaurus like this," says James Heslope of Christie's British auction house that took over the sale.

"There aren't a lot of good structures complete," he adds.

Stan is named after the paleontologist responsible for discovering its structure.
