Scottish actor James McAvoy will star in Christian Karion's thriller My Son.

Claire Foy participates in the project with him.

The artists will play the parents, whose son is missing.

According to the plot of the original tape, they are divorced due to the constant employment of the father of the family at work.

The sad news forces the character of McAvoy to return to the city where the mother of the child (Claire Foy) lives.

The hero decides to sort out the situation and find his son on his own.

The tape will be a remake of the 2017 film of the same name, which was also directed by Christian Karion.

Popular French actors Guillaume Canet and Melanie Laurent played the main roles.

The action took place in the mountains in the south-east of France.

The new version will be intended for rental in different regions.

“We're thrilled to be working with Christian Karion on a remake of My Son for an international audience,” said Adam Fogelson, a spokesman for STXfilms.

The tape is planned to be rolled out in North America, Latin America, Australia, China, as well as a number of European countries, including Great Britain, Italy, Spain and the Benelux states.

For James McAvoy, working on the role will be a creative quest.

Like his predecessor in the French version of the film, Guillaume Canet, the actor will not be given a traditional script where dialogues are written.

McAvoy will have only the main plot outline, and the specific lines that will be included in the final film will be the result of his improvisation on the set.

The creators of the picture note that this technique meets the general mood of the future film and brings the actor closer to the image of his hero, who does not know what awaits him the next moment.

“James McAvoy will conduct real-time detective work on camera, which will create real tension in this thriller.

We support such bold and innovative approaches to storytelling, which is different for "My Son" ... We are sure that this film will not leave the audience indifferent, "- quotes the words of Fogelson Varitey.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, all the cast of the English version of the film, except McAvoy, and the crew will be working on the script.

Interestingly, James McAvoy already had experience of working in a state of uncertainty when he was filming Danny Boyle's Trance.

In an interview with The Showbiz 411, the artist admitted that he and his colleagues were at times confused, but the director kept the situation under control.

According to McAvoy, Boyle preferred to create an atmosphere in which the actors had more questions than answers.

Fogelson also approved the lead actress.

“It is difficult to imagine a better and more impressive choice than Claire Foy,” he stressed.

The film is expected to go into production in early November 2020.

Filming will take place in Scotland.

The estimated date of the premiere has not yet been announced.

The project will be produced by Christian Karion, Brahim Shioua, Laure Irrmann, Rebecca O'Brien, Vincent Maraval and Mark Bhutan.

The production will involve Wild Bunch International, Une Hirondelle, Sixteen Films, and Mad River Pictures, which will manage the film's overseas rights.

Interestingly, in the case of the 2017 film, Karion's technique paid off, at least in terms of time, it took only six days to shoot.

The film showed a rather modest result at the box office, grossing $ 3 million in several European countries, the USA, Canada, Mexico, South Korea and Japan.

Critics' reviews about it were mixed: according to the site Rotten Tomatoes, 59% of reviews were positive.

Nevertheless, a number of critics spoke positively about the director's creative method.
