Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss went from being loved by the series' loyal following, to becoming scapegoats for the final season, which many thought was an unworthy end to the popular series.

Some thought it went too fast, that it was too dark or too poorly executed.

For those who have not seen clearly Game of Thrones, we avoid going into more detail than this.

- So many worked so hard on every little part.

When you say something critical, it may sound like you are blaming someone else.

And really, only the two of us can be blamed - and I really do not want to blame us, says Dan Weiss.

Book about the series

The creators are interviewed in the new book, Fire cannot kill a dragon, where Entertainment Weekly journalist James Hibberd writes about the series with all the work and all the tours behind it.

- There are definitely things we would do differently.

But I do not know if it is something I want to discuss in public, says David Benioff.

Other producers comment

In the book, there are several other producers for the series who comment on the ending.

Executive producer Carolyn Strauss says there will always be someone who thinks they could make a better deal.

- If others think they had a better idea, they can do it themselves, she says.

Her colleague, producer Christopher Newman, says he has no regrets about the final season.

- I think it was the best we've ever done.

When people say "I was not happy with the end", I think no one would have been happy with their end even if they wrote it.
