  Yang Yazhou, 72, was born in a famous puppet family in Zhangzhou. His ancestors have been engaged in puppet shows for four generations. Now it is passed down to his grandson and is the seventh generation.

Yang Yazhou is currently the provincial non-genetic inheritor of Zhangzhou puppet head carving, a national intangible cultural heritage project. He is also the principal teacher of puppet carving at Shanghai Theatre Academy and the first Chinese to teach puppet carving at the French National Art Center.
