Il Upon Twice

by Franck Thilliez, published on June 6, 2020 by Éditions Fleuve Noir.

Her favorite quote:

Gabriel Moscato had put Sagas' foot in another's shoes, with a precise idea deep in his brain.

An idea which, in all likelihood and the words of the neurologist, had made him lose his mind.

Why this book?

  • Because it's a good idea to conduct a double investigation:

the official investigation and that of a former gendarme who no longer knows what happened since his daughter disappeared 12 years ago.

    The two investigations mingle, intersect.

  • Because it's written skillfully enough that the reader will

want to read another next chapter, then the next, etc.

and thus arrive until the end without realizing it.

An effective recipe: at the end of each chapter, a questioning or a twist.

  • Because it is intense, there is a permanent tension,

revelations galore, and the tandem formed by the two former police colleagues, works wonderfully.

The atmospheres are heavy, the characters firmly set, the author drops the pieces of a morbid puzzle.

This book was read

without being able to stop.

A good thriller even if the denouement draws towards a fable that casts a shadow on our reading, but the pleasure is present throughout the book.
