Zhang Yuhuan celebrated the reunion festival at home after 27 years in jail

In the past few days, Zhang Yuhuan has not gone anywhere.

During the 11th long holiday, Zhangjia Village, Pillow Ridge, Jinxian County, Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, Zhang Yuhuan’s home was particularly lively.

This is the first time Zhang Yuhuan and his family have sat together to celebrate the festival after 27 years in jail.

The National Day coincides with the Mid-Autumn Festival. Zhang Yuhuan, his two sons, eldest brother and many relatives, more than 20 people gathered at his mother's house.

That morning, Zhang Yuhuan also came to his mother's field.

The orange tree he planted here 30 years ago was full of oranges. He took his mother and children to watch as he walked, and his daughter-in-law made a short video.

At noon, Zhang Yuhuan's family had a clear division of labor and worked together to cook more than 30 dishes. They were divided into two tables and enjoyed a happy reunion festival.

Because of the cloudy sky, there was no bright moon in Nanchang on the night of Mid-Autumn Festival.

For the dinner, relatives from Jiayuan left. They cooked 12 dishes and ate moon cakes that symbolized reunion.

Because he was diagnosed with diabetes, Zhang Yuhuan only tasted a small piece of moon cake and did not drink at the dinner, but his joy was beyond words.

The eldest son Zhang Baoren’s WeChat nickname is "Wan Yue", and he said that his moon has never been round.

Although the family had a reunion dinner during the Mid-Autumn Festival, his online name remained unchanged.

"That's it, don't change it. Because it's impossible for the mother to come back."

Zhang Baoren said that during this holiday, because many relatives visited, neither he nor his father went on a trip. He planned to visit his mother in a few days.

On August 4 this year, the Jiangxi Provincial Higher People’s Court issued a public verdict on Zhang Yuhuan’s retrial of intentional homicide, revoked the original trial and declared Zhang Yuhuan innocent.

Zhang Yuhuan, who was detained for 9,778 days, finally regained his freedom. He is also the longest defendant in custody in public reports.

At 6:40 that night, Zhang Yuhuan returned to Zhangjia Village, Pillow Ridge, Jinxian County, Jiangxi Province.

Zhang Yuhuan said that his elderly mother has not been able to recognize him after he has not been home for nearly 27 years.

Zhang Yuhuan and his family cried with each other, and then chatted with his son for a long time.

"The mother has grown old, the child has grown up, the father has passed away, and the family house has gone down." The vicissitudes of life in 27 years have made Zhang Yuhuan seem incompatible with society.

Although it is a familiar hometown, high-rise buildings, smart phones, wide concrete roads... everything makes the 53-year-old feel so unfamiliar.

He is learning to integrate into the world that is rushing to his eyes.

He is equipped with a pair of reading glasses and bought a notebook to jot down daily affairs.

He was horrified by the cars passing by on the street, and he was not sure when he could cross the road. Every time, his grandchildren would walk by holding his grandfather's hand.

He marveled at the powerful functions of the mobile phone. Every time he watched a short video, he had to wait until the loop was played five or six times before he realized that it was over, and then carefully swiped his finger across it slowly, because he was afraid of scratching the phone.

"I'm just like a kid now." Zhang Yuhuan said.

From August to October, since Zhang Yuhuan went home for two months, he learned how to ride an electric car, cook dumplings and make short videos. This is the result of the joint efforts of him, his eldest son Zhang Baoren, his younger son Zhang Baogang, and several grandsons.

Before the Mid-Autumn Festival, the youngest son Zhang Baogang bought a new electric car for Zhang Yuhuan.

From 26 to 53 years old, after more than 9,000 days of waiting, Zhang Yuhuan's family is back on track.

Zhang Yuhuan said that he hoped that the life after the "rebirth" would be far away from ups and downs, and be smooth and profitable.
